With the growth of the community of Alys Beach, the previous postal facility required updating and expansion to accommodate residents. We created a structure with proportions and detailing that convey its importance as a community gathering place, acknowledging the historical significance of post offices as civic centers. The reimagined Postal Pavilion continues the architectural language established at the tennis and pickleball facility. The signature Alys Beach sculpted white concrete aesthetic creates a visually striking structure that is particularly impressive when illuminated at night. The pavilion establishes a relationship with the main driveway as well as the pedestrian and cycling paths, creating a natural approach for users. The careful craftsmanship of the concrete work demonstrates the community’s commitment to quality construction and enduring materials. By elevating a necessary service to the level of civic architecture, the project demonstrates how even utilitarian functions can contribute to the cultural fabric of a community.
