Tredegar Iron Works

Richmond, VA
Tredegar Iron Works is an urban infill, mixed-use development located on the site of a historic cannonball factory along the James River. The rediscovery of waterfront walkways has created a burgeoning development, including a corporate campus and Civil War Museum. Designed around the concept of a Mediterranean-style hill town, the program across the 2.8-acre site includes a 90-key boutique hotel with conference center; four restaurants; a food hall; and a parking deck. The buildings step down the hill and are oriented toward the river vistas, allowing all buildings to have views of the water. The size and character of the new buildings complements the historic buildings in the area. Similarly, to tie in with the context, materials will include granite, modeled brick, metal roofs, and timber structural elements. A multipurpose event courtyard connects each building, while existing site pathways continue through the development.
