The guiding premise for The Visual Technology Building was to promote the fastest-growing field of study, photography.  The program for this 40,900 s.f. facility consisted of specialty laboratories, classrooms, and administrative spaces designed to provide the latest instructional techniques in photography, graphic design, printing, and video media. Special spaces include darkrooms, film processing, graphic arts, a commercial photography studio, and computer labs.

The building was positioned on the site to further design and augment a courtyard and encouraged pedestrian circulation through the building and across the campus. The student gallery space provided a welcoming view of the courtyard. The space is also intended to be used for special events. Administrative spaces were efficiently organized apart from classroom and lab space.
